Brickies sand (also called mortar or masonry sand) is a fine, slightly clay-bearing sand chosen for how it behaves in a mix rather than how it drains. That natural plasticity is what gives a mortar the "butter" a bricklayer wants — it holds on the trowel, spreads cleanly and doesn't slump out of the joint.
A tonne of brickies sand mixes roughly enough mortar to lay 800–1,000 standard bricks at typical joint thickness. For a straightforward single-skin wall, one tonne per 20m² of brickwork is a reasonable starting estimate.
Yard tip: Keep the pile covered. Brickies sand holds moisture, and a wet pile after rain will throw your water ratio out and change the mortar colour between batches.
Priced per tonne, delivered across metropolitan Adelaide, GST included. We place the load where you actually need it rather than dropping it at the kerb — that's the difference between a morning of barrowing and none. Order online, or call the yard on (08) 8443 9533 if you'd like a hand working out quantities.
