When standard sandy loam isn't quite cutting it, and you want to give your landscape an organic boost right from the start, Jeffries Special Soil is the premium choice.
Rather than just providing structural filler, Jeffries Special Soil is a highly consistent, premium-engineered blend of sandy loam, coarse washed sand, added gypsum, and Jeffries Organic Compost.
Rich in Recycled Organics: Blended with premium, aerobically composted green organics, this soil naturally feeds your plants with a gradual, long-term release of vital nutrients.
Built-In Clay Breaker: Formulated with a touch of gypsum, it proactively works to open up tight, sticky base soils, improving structural porosity over time.
pH Buffering Capacity: Boasting a stable, gently alkaline profile ($\text{pH } 7.5 - 8.5$), it acts as an excellent buffer to stabilize your ground chemistry and optimize nutrient uptake.
Establishing New Garden Beds: The absolute best foundation topsoil for building brand-new ornamental, native, or shrub garden beds from scratch.
Topping Up Sunken Beds: Ideal for rejuvenating older garden beds where the original topsoil has depleted, eroded, or lost its nutritional value.
Underneath New Instant Lawn: Spread an even layer before rolling out new turf to give the root systems an organically rich, soft bedding to lock into quickly.
Loosen the Base: Before throwing your new soil down, use a garden fork to loosen your existing ground to about one spade's depth. This avoids "layering" and lets roots travel deeply.
Mulch to Finish: Once your Jeffries Special Soil is laid and planted out, lock in that premium moisture by topping it with a high-quality organic mulch.
Note on Turf: While it is phenomenal underneath new turf, it is not recommended as a lawn top-dressing. For top-dressing existing grass, stick to a fine, sharp product like Mt Compass Sandy Loam.
Health & Handling Note: Because this product is alive with beneficial, active micro-organisms, always remember to wear gardening gloves and a mask if conditions are dry or dusty, and give your hands a good wash when the job is done!
