Bulk - Washed Concrete Sand

Washed concrete sand has been through a wash plant to strip out the clay, silt and organic fines that weaken a concrete mix. What's left is a coarse, angular sand that bonds hard with cement and drains freely.

What it's used for

• Site-batched concrete — the fine aggregate component of a standard mix
• Paving bedding sand — a 25–30mm screeded bed under segmental pavers
• Screed and topping mixes
• Drainage backfill where a clean, free-draining sand is required

How much to order

For paving, a 30mm bedding layer needs about 1 tonne per 20m². For concrete, a typical 1:2:3 mix uses roughly 0.5 tonne of sand per cubic metre of finished concrete.

Yard tip: Don't substitute brickies sand into a concrete mix. The clay content that makes mortar workable is exactly what reduces concrete strength.
