Concrete pins are the plain steel pegs that hold everything else in place — formwork, profiles, string lines, edging and mesh. Not glamorous, and the job stops without them.

What it's used for

• Pegging formwork and screed rails before a pour
• Setting profiles and string lines
• Pinning steel garden edging in hard ground
• Holding weed mat and geotextile on slopes

On the job: Drive pins on a slight angle away from the form. A pin driven straight down works loose as the concrete pushes against the form; an angled pin tightens against it.
