Poly damp proof course (DPC) is the polyethylene membrane laid in masonry to stop rising damp — moisture wicking up out of the ground through brick, block and mortar into the wall above. It's cheap, it's mandatory in most masonry construction, and it's impossible to add after the fact.

Specifications

• 110mm wide x 30m roll
• 500 micron (500um) polyethylene
• Flexible and easy to lay flat in a mortar bed

Where it goes

• At the base of masonry walls, above ground level
• Between slab and wall at the slab edge
• Over lintels and openings as a cavity flashing
• Under sills and copings

Trade tip: Lap joints by at least 150mm and bed the DPC fully in mortar. A dry-laid or short-lapped joint is a direct path for moisture around the barrier.
